Reviews
I absolutely loved my stay at Roca Negra! The staff is incredibly helpful and always has a smile on their face. The location is beautiful, and the view from the balcony is just breathtaking. As for the room, it was clean and spacious, and the bathroom was spotless with no mold at all. The double bed was huge and super comfortable. The biggest bonus for me was that it’s an adult-only vibe (no kids around!). It was so quiet and peaceful, which made my vacation even more relaxing. The only downside was that the food was a bit repetitive and pretty much the same every day. That being said, everything tasted good, and the desserts were to die for! Thank you so much for the hospitality. If I get the chance, I’ll definitely be back! 🫶🏻
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel, I'm just not certain that a 4 star rating is justified. We stayed on the 3rd floor with a seaview and opted for the 1/2 board option. The room was nice but ours was looking a little tired. There was limited decoration, mirrors fitted in bizzare positions, a badly fitted mini-fridge which contained only 2 bottles of water. The bathroom was tight with a noisy fan and discoloured silicone joints in the shower. The bed was as comfortable and the shower was good...👍 Meals are served in a large open plan room. It's all dealt with as a self service format. Except, drinks, you have to order those. There was always lots of food for lunch and evening meal. Breakfast was always the same. Hot and cold food options were available with freshly cooked eggs and pancakes if you wanted. The self service type buffet was ok. Regrettably we always felt that there was to much garlic in the food. However, there was always the freshly grilled meat option available every evening. Parking in the street can be a problem... The staff were always polite, friendly and helpful...
What an amazing place to truly relax and unwind! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the incredibly friendly and professional staff who go above and beyond to make your stay special. The atmosphere is peaceful and perfect for adults looking for a calm escape. The hotel is spotless throughout — rooms are very well kept, everything works perfectly, and housekeeping maintains a high standard every day. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are modern, and the overall room layout is practical and cozy. While the food selection isn’t huge, the quality more than makes up for it. Every meal was fresh, tasty, and well presented. The pool bar food is absolutely delicious and perfect for a relaxed lunch in the sun. We were also impressed that the soft drinks are proper branded drinks served from bottles — not flat machine soda — which really makes a difference. The facilities are excellent, especially the swimming pool area with its stunning sea views. There are plenty of loungers, a calm atmosphere, and it never feels overcrowded. The spa area is another highlight, ideal for complete relaxation. The location is fantastic if you want something quieter and more authentic, with beautiful coastal views and lovely walks nearby. It’s the perfect place to recharge. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a peaceful, high-quality adults-only getaway. We will absolutely be back! 🌊✨
"A Hidden Gem: Unforgettable Views and Total Relaxation I had the pleasure of staying at the Occidental Roca Negra (formerly Hotel Roca Negra) a few years ago, and even after all this time, I still look back on my visit with great fondness. It's a truly special place that offers an escape from the hustle and bustle. **The Location is Simply Breathtaking** What sets this hotel apart is its spectacular location. It is situated in a unique spot in Agaete where the dramatic mountains of Gran Canaria converge with the vast Atlantic Ocean. The views from the hotel, especially the pool area, are simply stunning and incredibly peaceful. It’s the perfect backdrop for a relaxing holiday. **Comfortable Stay and Great Atmosphere** The rooms were consistently clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. The overall ambiance of the hotel and the immediate surroundings is very pleasant and welcoming. It really feels like you are getting away from it all. **A Note on Accessibility** The only thing to note is that the hotel is slightly off the beaten path and not in the main tourist hub. While this contributes significantly to its charm and tranquility, I would strongly recommend renting a car. Having a vehicle makes it much easier to explore the nearby natural seawater pools ('Las Salinas') and the charming fishing village of Puerto de las Nieves. **In Summary** If you are looking for a place to unwind and reconnect with nature in a beautiful setting, this hotel is a fantastic choice. The serene environment and incredible views make it a highly memorable destination."
We had a largely lovely time at hotel occidental. We stayed for 4 nights over new year. The staff are excellent, attentive and cheerful throughout - thank you. The room was as pictured, a little tired in places but spacious and clean. Unfortunately there was a persistent bad smell of drains in our en suite which at times was overwhelming. The breakfast was plentiful with a lot of variety however quality of ingredients was poor. The location is quiet and peaceful however I would recommend renting a car if you want to leave resort. The natural swimming pools , a 5 minute walk from the hotel were fab. Local restaurant options are great for traditional Spanish / Canadian cuisine. Without some attention to renovation I would worry that this hotel is more like a 3 star.
