Description
Led by astronomers born and raised in Gran Canaria’s mountains, this tour offers a genuine educational journey through the sky. You will visit carefully selected outdoor locations far from light pollution, near Llanos de la Pez or other high-altitude sites, to experience some of Europe’s clearest night skies. The exact meeting point varies by weather and will be communicated before the tour.
The tour begins after sunset, when the stars first appear. It starts with a guided visual tour using a powerful astro laser to identify constellations, bright stars, and celestial features as the island’s ancient settlers once did. You will learn how to locate Polaris, understand celestial movements, and hear about meteor showers, comets, eclipses, and the life cycle of stars.
Next, you will use advanced telescopes to observe major celestial objects visible that night. In addition to common targets, the guide will show objects typically reserved for experienced observers, adding depth to your experience.
At the end of the two-hour tour, you will receive a high-resolution digital photo of your group taken with professional astrophotography techniques. The image will be sent by email a few days later as a keepsake.
Warm clothing is essential due to the high-altitude setting, even in summer. Extra chairs or coats are available on request at no extra cost. Transport to the site is not included; participants must have a vehicle for full autonomy, although advice on taxis or buses can be provided.
