Reviews
I had a mixed experience at Alma Gaia. There are some undeniable culinary highlights here, but several details in the service and food execution held the evening back from being truly great. The highlights were the croquettes, without exaggeration, these were the best meat croquettes I have ever eaten. The meat had an exceptional grill taste, smoky and perfectly charred. They offer an excellent wine card with a very thoughtful selection. Areas for improvement: - Service pace: The staff is very friendly, but it becomes intrusive. We felt we lost the peace at our table because every single member of the staff came by to ask if everything was good. - Rushed clearing: Plates were being whisked away while we were still chewing our last bites, which made the meal feel rushed rather than relaxed. - Food execution: The pork cheeks were unfortunately tasteless and lacked depth. Additionally, while the anchovies were served with a high-quality olive oil, they were placed on basic supermarket crackers. Since the crackers couldn't absorb the oil like a piece of self-toasted bread would, the dish felt disconnected and difficult to eat. A place with great potential and some must-try items, but the service flow and attention to side components need refinement.
Walked in spontaneously on a saturday evening and were greeted by a very friendly waiter. The atmosphere was nice and all waiters were courteous and attentive. The steak from the national beef was extremly good (if you like it on the marbled side) and the quality of the tuna (picante) was one of the best I‘ve ever eaten. Also the live music (one talented guitar player/singer) added well to the experience. Wine selection is great. A gem in a jungle of tourist traps in Maspalomas.
Dined here tonight after reading all the glowing reviews. Originally booked for 7.30 but no one in - so we asked to return at 8.45. Still not busy but had some atmosphere. We ordered the croquettes for starters - both delicious. We had the bread - too much salt, needed pepper. I had the lamb which was delicious and hubby had the ribeye - he had to send his back as so much fat. It arrived again, a bit better - but not the greatest. For sides we ordered the veggies (yummy) and dauphinoise potatoes - a bit like sliced potato in oil - so not so great. Dessert we shared the lemon soul which was delicious. Good Spanish band playing too All in all - a bit of a let down as we had huge expectations.
Alma Gaia was the first restaurant we visited during our trip. The food was delicious, fresh, and full of flavour, and the overall atmosphere was really relaxed and welcoming.
Highly recommend this spot. Staff were brilliant and charming. Atmosphere was good and really cool interior. The food was excellent. We ordered Prawn and rib eye steak Croquettes, main course was Pork Ribs and Sirloin beef with mushroom cream, rice pudding and chocolate gauche dessert. Highly recommend everything except the rice pudding (it was only ok).
