Far from the beach . Rooms are cosy but bathroom are just two separate cubicles. Rooftop bar is nice and view from the rooftop is great.
Nothing wrong, but I was left a bit underwhelmed. Rooms are functional and it all felt like the IKEA showroom.
This hotel is 'nice' in the best sense of the word. The lobby and rooms are very mismatched in terms of the decor when compared with the rooftop bar and the breakfast restaurant which (in contrast to the rooms and lobby) are really nicely thought out. The lobby is a brash, bright affair with seats that keep you bolt upright as if you're waiting for a bus. Reception were very friendly but there was a lot of misinformation - one guy said we could use the Santa Catalina (a sister hotel across the way) as a lounge spot for 15 euros then another man said actually that was a mistake and there is no where to go to the pool then the first lady said Actually the pool is 45 euros per day. Needless to say, we went up there (to have a nightcap) and it was not worth anywhere near 45 euros a day to us. Breakfast was excellent, the room itself despite being a suite has a sitting room with a sofa that (again) you need to sit bolt upright on and there isn't a window! Or even a picture to at least add something to the space. It felt like sitting in a derelict building plus there is no space around the bed to sit. I found myself being 'that complainer' as the lounges' coffee table was all wobbly to the point I didn't feel safe to put my laptop down and the helpful receptionist tried all the tables on each floor! It was fixed the next day but still vaguely wobbly. We didn't ever use it. Oh and the WiFi is not great. Luckily we get free 5G with our phones otherwise that would have been evenings of staring at spinning buffering circles (admittedly these are more interesting that Gran Canaria...sorry!) If the hotel update the lobby and rooms to match the gorgeous rooftop bar and restaurant (keeping the price the same) this would be a great hotel.
Unfortunately this is the most underwhelming Barcelo hotel we have stayed in. We booked one of the premium suites and was expecting something a bit more luxurious for the price. The suite is lacking any Canerian charm or identity and are we are somewhat disappointed as we had stayed in a much better on a previous visits in far superior locations. The suites separate seating area is is a weird configuration with no view or purpose other than being more suited to an extra bed of a family room and the view and location certainly doesn't have the romantic wow factor we were after. Perhaps a picture or something would improve its drab expression as is maybe straighten the TV and wall socket in the bathroom as it really is a tiresome interior. Due to lack of staffing and in no way a reflection on the receptionist doing the best they could, the consseeige is non existent and took us ages to simply check in luggage so we could be on our way. The hotel seems in the middle of nowhere and lacks any form of 24 hour room service that you would expect from a 4 star hotel. A sandwich or anything would have been good after an evening uptown. The bed is however very comfortable and what the Barcelo chain do best. Hopefully the breakfast offering will be the same. Overall as a couple looking for a romantic break then this is certainly not the hotel for us.
