Description

This isn’t just a tour—it’s a journey into the most authentic corners of Gran Canaria. Land & Table takes you off the beaten path to breathe in the sea breeze, taste the land, and discover places that feel like pages from a travel diary rather than a guidebook. It’s a mix of nature, flavors, and local stories, lived at the right pace: unhurried, curious, and real. The day begins with comfortable pick-up directly from your hotel or Airbnb. Our first stop is at El Bufadero de La Garita, a natural volcanic formation on the northeastern coast. Here, the ocean pushes through rock channels and bursts into the air with incredible force, as if the island itself were breathing. It’s a small but powerful spectacle of nature, just steps from the road, and the perfect way to start the day. From there we head inland, to one of the island’s most traditional and beloved markets: the Mercado de Vega de San Mateo. The atmosphere is vibrant and authentic, with stalls piled high with fresh fruit, cheeses, jams, and all kinds of local produce. Colors, scents, and flavors fill the air, making it a feast for the senses. This is rural Gran Canaria at its best—a place where simple gestures and honest flavors are still part of everyday life. Next comes lunch in a typical local restaurant, chosen not for tourist appeal but for its warmth and authenticity. Here, the menu reflects the territory itself: rustic, flavorful, and true to the island’s culinary tradition. Expect hearty dishes and an atmosphere that feels like home. In the afternoon, we step back in time with a visit to Cuatro Puertas, a fascinating archaeological site carved into volcanic rock. You’ll wander among caves, ceremonial spaces, and stone corridors that seem frozen in time. The echoes of Gran Canaria’s earliest inhabitants can still be felt here, offering a glimpse into the spiritual life of the island’s aboriginal people. Our adventure continues into one of Gran Canaria’s most dramatic natural landscapes: the Barranco de Guayadeque. This breathtaking canyon is lined with palm trees, prickly pears, eucalyptus, and towering rock walls. Some of the cave houses here are still lived in today, a striking reminder of the deep bond between the island’s people and their land. The drive itself is spectacular, winding through sharp contrasts—lush valleys, arid hills, and sudden ocean views that change with every curve. And, like any perfect day, we finish off-road. A short dirt track takes us to a hidden cliff overlooking the Atlantic. Here, the sound of the waves and the endless horizon create a serene farewell to the day—a moment of silence and reflection that captures the essence of the island. We return you comfortably to your accommodation in the early evening, around 7:00 PM. What remains is a day full of discoveries, dramatic scenery, and genuine encounters. This is Gran Canaria at its most authentic—the part of the island that few visitors ever see, and even fewer forget.
